Our coach development program follows international standards and provides progressive certification levels to help you grow as a professional pickleball coach.

Elementary Level

The Elementary Level Certification introduces you to the fundamental concepts of pickleball. You will learn the basic rules, court dimensions, proper grip techniques, ready position, and essential footwork patterns that form the foundation of all pickleball play.

This certification focuses on understanding the game structure and developing the physical fundamentals necessary for effective play and teaching.

Rules and Scoring

• Understand the basic rules and scoring system of

Pickleball

• Learn the two-bounce rule and its application

• Master scoring procedures and server rotation

• Understand fault conditions and their consequences

Court Knowledge

• Identify court dimensions and measurements

• Recognize key zones: NVZ, baseline, service area

• Understand court positioning for doubles play

• Learn proper court setup and maintenance

Grip Fundamentals

• Explain the importance of correct grip

• Differentiate between Continental and V-Grip

• Understand grip pressure and paddle control

• Learn when to use each grip type

Movement Basics

• Describe the ready position and its role

• Understand basic footwork patterns (from baseline and

non-volley line)

• Learn shuffle step and cross step techniques

• Master split step timing and execution

Grip Demonstration

Demonstrate proper Continental and V-Grip during

forehand and backhand strokes. Show correct

grip pressure and paddle face control throughout

various stroke demonstrations.

Footwork Execution

Execute shuffle steps and cross steps to reach the ball efficiently. Demonstrate proper weight transfer and balanced movement across the court

Ready Position

Maintain correct ready position throughout drills. Display proper stance, paddle position, and body

alignment consistently during all practice activities.

Split Step Timing

Perform split step consistently before opponent's stroke. Show proper timing, landing position, and immediate readiness to move in any direction.

Intermediate Certification

Intermediate Level

The Intermediate Level Certification builds upon your elementary foundation by

introducing stroke mechanics, serve/return-of-serve techniques, and third shot drop. You will learn the signature dink shot that defines pickleball, master both forehand and backhand strokes, and develop consistent serving and returning skills.

This certification emphasizes the development of reliable stroke production and introduces the tactical elements that make pickleball unique among racquet sports.

Stroke Mechanics

• Explain mechanics of forehand and backhand strokes

• Understand low-to-high swing path and contact point

• Learn proper weight transfer and follow-through

• Recognize common stroke errors and corrections

Serve Techniques

• Understand serve types: Volley serve and Drop serve

• Learn strategic use of different serves (topspin,

backspin, side spin, lob)

• Master serve placement and depth control

• Understand legal serve requirements and rules

Return of Serve

• Describe effective return of serve techniques

• Understand depth and placement strategies

• Learn to create time for net approach

• Master return positioning and preparation

Dink Shot Strategy

• Understand the purpose and strategy of the dink shot

• Learn patience and consistency at the NVZ

• Explain punch volley technique and NVZ play

• Recognize when to dink versus when to attack

Groundstrokes

Execute forehand and backhand strokes with proper form in rallies. Demonstrate consistent low-to-high swing path, appropriate contact point, and controlled follow-through.

Returns

Return serves with controlled placement to the back third of the court. Demonstrate ability to create time for net approach through depth and height control.

Volleys

Demonstrate forehand and backhand punch volleys under pressure. Execute with proper preparation, compact swing, and controlled placement to keep

opponents back.

Serving

Perform accurate Volley and Drop serves with proper technique. Show consistent placement in the back third of the service court with appropriate height and pace.

Dinking

Sustain dink rallies at NVZ with consistency. Show proper pendulum swing,contact point in front of body, and ability to maintain rally without errors.

Referee

Gain a clear understanding of pickleball by learning its essential rules and regulations. From scoring systems and serving techniques to court dimensions and fault calls and mastering the official guidelines

Advanced Certification

Advanced Level

The Advanced Level Certification introduces sophisticated shot selection and tactical positioning that separates recreational players from competitive ones. You will master the critical third shot drop, learn offensive and defensive lob techniques, develop a reliable overhead smash, and understand advanced positioning strategies.

This certification emphasizes tactical decision-making, shot selection based on court position, and the ability to transition from defensive to offensive play. Further enhancement of working knowledge of pickleball rules and regulations will be reinforced.

Third Shot Drop Tactics

• Understand tactical importance of the third shot drop

• Learn the concept of "long dink" from baseline

• Master trajectory and apex height control

• Recognize when to drop versus drive

• Understand transition zone movement after drop

Lob Strategy

• Explain offensive and defensive lob applications

• Understand disguise and deception in lobs

• Learn target areas for effective lobs

• Recognize appropriate lob opportunities

• Master cross-court versus straight lob selection

Overhead Smash

• Describe overhead smash mechanics and timing

• Understand proper body positioning and rotation

Advanced Positioning

• Analyze advanced positioning strategies

• Understand partner communication and stacking

• Learn court coverage and gap management

• Master transition zone play and movement

• Recognize shot selection based on position

Third Shot Drop Execution

Execute third shot drop with proper trajectory and

placement from both baseline and transition zone.

Demonstrate consistent apex height control and

soft landing in opponent's NVZ.

Overhead Smash Delivery

Deliver overhead smashes effectively during rallies.

Demonstrate proper sideways turn, high contact point, downward angle, and controlled follow-through for winning shots.

Offensive Lob Performance

Perform offensive lobs to transition opponents to defensive positions. Show proper disguise, trajectory control, and placement deep in the court while maintaining balance.

Advanced Tactics Application

Apply advanced tactics in simulated match play. Show appropriate shot selection based on position, effective partner communication, and ability to transition between defensive and offensive play.

IPTPA Certification

Level 1 Coach

The Level 1 Coach Certification is the culmination of your coach development

journey. This intensive 1 day program transforms your playing knowledge into professional teaching expertise. You will master the IDEAS teaching methodology from IPTPA,

learn to detect and correct technical errors, develop comprehensive lesson plans with sports education pedagogies, and complete a

supervised teaching practicum. Upon

successful completion, you will be certified as a both PPAHK and IPTPA Level 1 Coach, qualified to teach pickleball at all elementary

through advanced levels and represent PPAHK and IPTPA as a professional instructor

Subsidy Agreement Terms

The PPAHK Subsidy Agreement formalizes the terms of the 40% course fee subsidy and outlines the obligations of both PPAHK and the certified coach. All accepted candidates must sign this agreement before beginning training.
